Members of the Stewardship Committee mow all burial areas once per year, including directly over settled gravesites. We try to time the mowing for after the goldenrod fall and before the snow flies — typically beginning mid October. The remaining meadows are mowed every 3 years or more frequently to manage invasive species according to our nature preserve management plan. Burial paths and hiking trails are mowed the entire growing season.
Burial Coordinators typically mark graves with recent plantings to protect them from the mower. There are poles next to the cottage if you want to mark your planting or you can call and ask a staff person to mark the grave for you.
